Now that were well into 2023, and the temperature keeps dipping, make sure to utilize these home maintenance tips in order to keep your house up-to-date!

  • Check windows and doors for leaks:

    Your windows and doors are the openings to your home. If they are improperly sealed, it could lead to significant heat loss and spikes to your monthly bill. Fixing any leaks and making sure the seal strips on your door are still in tact will make sure your home stays the temperature you want it.

  • Check roof for ice damns:

    Regions that experience snow with above freezing temperatures during the day and below freezing at night are prone to what is called “ice dams” or “ice damming”. As the ice accumulates, it will act as a dam, preventing water from flowing and may cause leaks in your home. To avoid ice dams, be sure to clear snow off of your roof, especially around vents.

  • Pour a bucket of water into the floor drain:

    To prevent sewer gas from entering your home through floor drains in your basement, make sure water is always present in the drains by occasionally pouring a bucket of clean water down the drain to re-establish the water seal.

  • Monthly duties:

    Remember to do these every month:

    • Check the batteries in your smoke and CO2 Detectors
    • Replace or clean your furnace air filter
    • Clean your hood range filter
