The Trico Homes Story

In 1982 Wayne Chiu, a mechanical engineer from Hong Kong, immigrated to Calgary starting his career and building a new life for his family. Ten years later, Chiu founded Trico Homes, with a commitment to being a different kind of homebuilding company — one that is conscious about creating the best places to live and believes businesses have a responsibility to bring positive change to their communities.

Trico Homes has grown and developed to become one of Calgary and area’s top builders, building over 13,500 quality single- and multi-family.

For over 30 years, Trico Homes has been focused on more than building homes, but building a culture rooted in purpose, people, and community. Since their inception, Trico wanted to create great places to live, work, and play, while also showing up as a caring and responsible corporate citizen, with the belief that businesses should make life better — for individuals, for families, and communities.

Glenda Schwartz, Director of Marketing at Trico Homes says “At the heart of our culture are five values that guide us: Trust, Respect, Integrity, Community, and Opportunity. These values shape how we treat customers, how we work together, how we lead, and how we partner.”

Trico maintains accountability through several avenues, notably B Corp Certification. As Western Canada’s only Certified B Corp homebuilder, Trico is proud to belong to a community of leading global corporations dedicated to balancing purpose and profit and using business as a force for good. At Trico, decisions are assessed according to their impact on our workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment.

Standout Offerings in the Calgary Market

Models like the Redwood and Everett were thoughtfully designed to better fit today’s homesites while offering flexibility for families. Buyers can personalize their space with options such as a main floor bedroom and full bathroom, spice kitchens, and a variety of layout configurations that accommodate multigenerational living and changing lifestyles, including secondary suites.

Beyond single-family homes, Trico also builds townhomes, street towns and condominiums to meet the growing demand for diverse housing options. Trico currently has four townhome projects available, as well as their newest condo offering, The Summit, reflects what today’s buyers are looking for: a low-maintenance, pet-friendly lifestyle without compromising on comfort, quality, or community. By offering a broader range of home types, they’re able to support homeowners at every stage of life.

How Trico Gives Back

Trico is committed to not only building homes but shaping the communities we build in by addressing the broader challenges facing not only today’s homebuyers, but housing in general. Trico recognizes the realities of housing affordability, and took meaningful action in 2026, through a $1 million donation to Erlton house, in partnership with Calgary Dream Centre. Erlton House provides affordable housing for at‑risk and vulnerable women and mothers. This partnership aligns with Trico’s commitment to giving back, demonstrating a genuine investment in making housing accessible and helping families find a place to call home.
