End of the year is upon us! Take this time to reflect on what an amazing year it’s been and get these last few home maintenance items checked off!
Adjust Heat Registers:
The heat registers in your home include a damper that allows you to control airflow. If a room feels too hot or too cold, adjusting the dampers can help regulate the temperature, a process called heat balancing.
Pay special attention to registers near your thermostat, as they play a key role in maintaining consistent temperatures throughout your home.
Clean Out the Pipes:
Your shower and sink drains collect a lot. From time to time it may be benificial to clear out any build up or debris.
A drain snake can be used to gather large clumps. Follow up with a standard drain cleaning chemical to remove any unwanted build up.
Shower drain caps can also be purchased to collect hair before it falls down!
Maintain Your Washing Machine:
Keeping your washing machine clean is crucial for extending its lifespan and ensuring your clothes stay fresh. Use a spray bottle filled with vinegar to clean the drum and a microfiber cloth to wipe down the rubber gaskets. Most machines also feature a compartment for draining the water reservoir, which should be emptied monthly.
Always refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations for best practices.
Monthly duties:
Remember to do these every month:
- Check the batteries in your smoke and CO2 Detectors
- Replace or clean your furnace air filter
- Clean your hood range filter
