Your August Home Maintenance Checklist:

  • Fill low spots in your yard

You may find that after the rain, there are some dips in your yard that collect water. To fill a low spot, remove the topsoil and fill the low spot with compacted clay, ensuring it slopes away from your foundation. Once filled with clay, topsoil can be added again.

  • Check sealants & caulking

Use a brush and bathroom cleaner to gently scrub silicone caulking in your bathroom. With cleaning, and the natural expansion and contraction of the materials bonded with the sealant, the sealant may crack or separate from the joint. Sealant joins should be repaired immediately if deteriorating.

  • Clean intake vent screens

With a forced-air heating system (furnace and ducting), fresh air is brought into the home from an intake vent located near the ground at one side of the home. Ensure this vent is clear from debris.

  • Monthly duties:

Remember to do these every month:

    • Check the batteries in your smoke and CO2 Detectors
    • Replace or clean your furnace air filter
    • Clean your hood range filter
