Mandatory education

Formal, industry-specific education is a membership requirement that makes ANHWP unique among Alberta’s home warranty providers.
Within six months of joining ANHWP, all Builder Members must have a senior officer in a decision-making capacity complete two mandatory courses: Moisture Control Technician (MCT) and Home Building on Alberta Soils.

ANHWP and PHBI created the Moisture Control Technician (MCT) course to proactively address the leading cause of failure in building envelopes: unwanted moisture. The world’s first initiative of its kind, this self-study course, now offered through the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), equips homebuilders with crucial skills for designing, building, and assessing wood frame buildings.

With a focus on the practical knowledge homebuilders need to make informed decisions and identify potential issues, ANHWP and PHBI designed this course to ensure homebuilders can recognize site conditions that require special attention, identify potential solutions to soil problems, skillfully interpret geotechnical reports and ask geotechnical engineers all the right questions.

This online course includes nine modules (including a final exam) plus a one-day practicum in Calgary or Edmonton to provide hands-on experience in a soils lab, construction site and land development site

Annual membership review

To maintain the quality of our membership, we maintain a rigorous application process and regularly conducts disciplined reviews of each Builder Member’s performance and qualifications. The operational areas subject to review include technical achievement, warranty performance, customer satisfaction, business practices and resources, and financial performance.

Among the foremost considerations for membership renewal is the homebuilder’s customer service record for each home built — from purchase to construction through to occupancy and the first year of ownership.
